Über diesen Job
We are looking for people who believe in the positive power of energy and in their own ability to move things forward. People who know the importance of energy and infrastructure and recognize the immense opportunities they present to shape the future for everybody. Because we are just the same: a large, dynamic company that opens its door wide to people who want to join us in turning ideas into real change.
- Interesting and challenging roles open up diverse perspectives for personal development
- We are characterized by our collegial teamwork and modern workspaces
- Various events provide opportunities for our students to network and talk to others as part of the Studi-Energy Program
- Flexible working time models make it possible to balance work and study
- Attractive remuneration opens up a range of possibilities: 2.000 € gross salary per month for all interns and those writing their thesis and gross pay starting at 16 € per hour for working students studying for a bachelor’s degree and 18 € for those on a master’s degree course
This role has direct front-line impact on EnBW's ambition to become a top-10 European trading house. It’s all about transforming raw market data into actionable insights that drive P&L in power, gas, and carbon markets. You’ll develop forecasting tools, deliver real-time analytics that traders rely on instantly, and automate data pipelines that process terabytes of information.
- You build, maintain, and run intraday & short-term price forecasting models (power, gas, carbon, renewables, GoOs)
- Delivering real-time signals and risk analytics that traders use immediately is part of your daily work
- You deep-dive into fundamental drivers: cross-border flows, weather impacts, generation outages, grid constraints, balancing markets
- Automating everything – from data pipelines to dashboard alerts – is part of your responsibilities
- You are an enrolled student in economics, mathematics, data science, physics, or engineering
- You want to understand how the energy world actually works
- Strong analytical and programming skills define you – Python is a must-have in your toolkit
- You bring a solid understanding of statistics and time-series analysis
- Fluent spoken and written English enables effective daily work; knowledge of German is an advantage
- You are ready to come regularly to the office in Karlsruhe
Imagine walking into a room where every screen shows live prices that decide whether millions of households have light, whether factories run or stop, and whether renewable energy gets used or curtailed.
That’s our trading floor.
Here, terawatts of electricity, billions of cubic meters of gas, and millions of tons of CO₂ certificates change hands every day. One good trade can save (or earn) tens of millions of euros. One bad decision can cost the same in minutes.
This isn’t "finance” detached from reality. The energy we trade and hedge keeps:
- Wind and solar farms profitable across half of Europe
- Germany’s heavy industry running 24/7
- Hospitals, data centers, and electric vehicle chargers powered even when the sun doesn’t shine and the wind dies
- Entire countries balanced when France’s nuclear fleet trips or Norwegian gas flows stop
When a storm knocks out wind in the North Sea, when temperatures drop 10 °C overnight, or when a single transmission line fails – the market explodes, and our traders (together with people like you) are the first line of defense for price stability and security of supply.
You won’t just "analyze data.”
You’ll sit two meters away from the proprietary power trader, the gas trader, the origination desk, and the meteorologist. If your model signals a 30% price spike in the next four hours, the desk acts on it – instantly. That’s real adrenaline. That’s real impact.
