Your Responsibilities

The Ibáñez group at ISTA is dedicated to exploring the complex world of inorganic nanomaterials. We focus on synthesizing and understanding these materials to unlock their potential in various applications, such as catalysis or thermoelectricity. Our research is characterized by a multidisciplinary approach that combines chemistry, physics, and material science, fostering a vibrant and innovative scientific environment. We are currently seeking an Automation Scientist responsible for maintaining Chemspeed infrastructure and developing various workflows for diverse group members. This position offers the unique opportunity to contribute to the largest project currently underway at ISTA. The main tasks will be to:

• Lead the implementation and setup of the Chemspeed infrastructure in the Ibáñez laboratory
• Take part in designing, purchasing, installing, or fabricating new high-throughput and robotic devices
• Oversee the maintenance of equipment and related chemicals, consumables, and spare parts inventories to ensure continuous and smooth operations
• Collaborate and discuss with students and postdocs to understand their needs, and develop workflows
• Program and operate robotic and automated equipment to perform experiments as per the project’s needs, analyze data, prepare reports and communicate results
• Mediate interactions with our Scientific Service Units
• Train students or users when needed

Your Profile

• PhD in Chemistry or chemical engineering, with practical experience in automated and high-throughput experimentation
• Experience with colloidal synthesis and solution process
• Capability of managing multiple projects concurrently
• Comfortable with using various software to control equipment and analyze data
• Enthusiasm to learn about new technologies and scientific fields
• Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• "Hands-on” attitude to operate and troubleshoot equipment when needed
• Team player and excellent communication in English (German is a plus)
• Strong organizational skills, reliability, a sense for responsibility, and a strong team-player attitude
• Proactive personality with a solution-oriented approach and a high level of service orientation
