Doctoral reseracher with reserach focus on the modeling and simulation of the airside operations at an international airport. The project target is to build up an agent-based simulation to evaluate novel processes and technologies towards more resilient and highly efficient aircraft, passanger, baggage and cargo handling.
About us As member of the department of Aerospace and Geodesy at the Technical University Munich the Chair of Aircraft Design is focusing on the aircraft design and its operation. The research is dedicated to the areas of "scenario analysis, future trends and technologies", "aircraft design for civil and military operations" and "operational analysis and evaluation". The combination of these research focus areas provides an ideal platform for interdisciplinary research in design, simulation and experimental validation, including experimental flight testing. Our common challenge The air transport system is currently facing severe challenges. While capacity in the system is constantly increas-ing after the COVID downturn, more and more airports get closer to their capacity limits, while at the same time facing issues in acquiring sufficient resources to conduct stable operations. Operation "at the edge” leads to high sensitivities of the system on external disturbances. Together with our industrial partners Lufthansa AG and Airport Munich GmbH we started a joint project to build optimization and simulation models for the operations of Terminal 2 of Munich Airport. The joint target is to derive tactical and strategic evolutions to increase resilience of opera-tions. Your contribution In close cooperation with the TUM chairs of Operations Management and Mobility Systems Engineering as well as experts from Lufthansa and Airport Munich you will contribute to the modelling and simulation framework on the operations of Terminal 2 of Munich Airport. You will mainly contribute from the aircraft operations and turn-around processes to build models that are capable to investigate process improvements and novel technologies to enable higher resilience of operations. Therefore, you should bring a MSc. or Dipl. degree in aerospace or mechanical engineering well above average and you should have experience in agent-based modelling and simulation. Funda-mental knowledge of the key disciplines in aerospace engineering and especially in airport/airline operations is re-quired. You will join our operations team and contribute to the projects in this field. Thus, you should be interested in cooperation with other groups, bring good communication, and writing skills in English to publish scientific pa-pers. Besides research activities you will also contribute to the lectures and organizational tasks of the chair.
