Job description

Quantum computing is the next technological leap in computer science. While physicists and engineers are developing the hardware, the software for quantum computers is a challenge and a crucial factor for success. As a renowned elite university, Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich has founded the QAR Lab as a spearhead in this field. Within the scope of various projects, we develop algorithms and platforms as the decisive innovations that will ensure that quantum computers meet the high expectations placed on them. Our approach is practice-oriented: we have access to several existing QC systems, such as those from IBM, Fujitsu, D-Wave Systems, and IonQ. We want to put the quantum advantage into practice! We are looking for applicants (m/f/d) who are equally passionate about quantum computing and want to contribute to the future of computer science. To set up the QAR Lab, we are looking to fill several full-time positions for research assistants who are enthusiastic about making this project a success. We are looking for several research assistants who are passionate about quantum computing and want to support us in making our numerous quantum computing projects a success.

Weekly hours

Your responsibilities

  • Research in quantum computing with a focus on reservoir computing
  • Participation in collaborative research projects
  • Development of QC and QKI algorithms, particularly in the field of optimization and artificial intelligence, for multiple domains such as production and logistics
  • Evaluation of existing QC and QKI algorithms
  • Definition and development of software platforms for NISQ computers, in collaboration with industry partners
  • Teaching in internships and seminars on quantum computing and supervising final theses

Your profile

  • First-class university degree in computer science or a related field
  • Curiosity, creativity, and enthusiasm for research and new technologies
  • Good, proven programming skills, preferably Python
  • Experience in quantum computing is advantageous (e.g., with IBM Qiskit, D-Wave Ocean, and, if applicable, Xanadu Pennylane)
  • Expertise in optimization and machine learning is advantageous
  • Structured approach to work, project experience is an advantage
  • Would you like to work in a highly motivated team of experts? Communication in English and German

What you can expect

  • Exciting, interdisciplinary research with direct practical application
  • Practical relevance: We don't just think about QC in theory, we put it into practice.
  • Team spirit: collegial, motivated environment with a high degree of personal responsibility
  • Modern technologies & access to real quantum computers
  • Development prospects: Publications, conference attendance, career development in an academic context

Contact

We look forward to receiving your detailed application, including a cover letter, resume, and references. Please send these preferably in a single PDF document (max. 5 MB) by email to: jobs@mobile.ifi.lmu.de .
