Über diesen Job
Fixed-term project position for 2 years with possibility of extension| Full-time with 38.5 hours per week | Remuneration according to the provisions of the TV-L E13 | Institute of Reproductive Genetics | subject to project approval
We are UKM. We have a clear social mandate and, through the combination of patient care, research and teaching, we bear a particular responsibility.
In order to meet our high standards every day, we are looking forward to welcoming your scientific expertise — ideally with you!
The Institute of Reproductive Genetics is part of the Centre for Medical Genetics, which also includes the Department of Medical Genetics. We care for patients across the entire spectrum of human genetic conditions and perform associated analyses using the latest state-of-the-art technologies.
For over 10 years, we have been running a self-developed system comprising an electronic patient record (EPR) and laboratory information management system (LIMS). This web-based system also includes the analysis of next-generation sequencing (NGS) data, both short and long read (Illumina/PacBio), and is used both in clinical care and research.
For a study with the aim to develop a non-hormonal contraceptive (NHC), we will be sequencing more than 4,000 genomes of men to identify cases affected by known NHC targets and to discover novel NHC targets. Together with our already available 3,000 exomes/genomes of men in infertile couples, this will create an unprecedented dataset for research in reproduction. Analysing these data requires detailed coordination as well as novel concepts and analytic approaches and, thus, a person keen to work on such challenges.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Development and implementation of algorithms and pipelines as well as analysis of genomic sequencing data, including methylome data (e.g. assembly and annotation)
- Work at the interface between research and diagnostics
- Varied, interesting and diverse tasks in a multidisciplinary, collegial and committed team
REQUIREMENTS:
- Completed degree in computer science, bioinformatics or a related subject; a doctorate is desirable
- Extensive experience in the analysis of next-generation sequencing data
- Solid programming skills (e.g. Python or R)
- A responsible, collegial and results-oriented approach to work
- High level of motivation and interest in a diverse and exciting range of tasks in a medical environment
