About surge aero GmbH
surge aero GmbH is developing high-performance propulsion systems and UAV platforms for the European market. We are building a highly experienced engineering team focused on developing and delivering flight-ready aerospace systems.
We are looking for a motivated Mechanical Engineering Intern to join our UAV development team in Munich. This is an opportunity for a student with a strong interest in mechanical design, aerospace engineering, and practical engineering development to contribute directly to real UAV projects.
We are particularly interested in students currently enrolled at universities in Munich or nearby, who are looking for a mandatory internship, a practical semester, or an opportunity to gain hands-on industry experience alongside their studies.
Your Responsibilities
As part of our engineering team, you will support the development, design, and integration of our UAV platforms. Your tasks may include:
- Supporting the design and development of UAV frames and aircraft structures.
- Assisting with mechanical component design and CAD modelling.
- Supporting the integration of sensors, actuators, and other components into the airframe.
- Helping evaluate structural requirements and mechanical design solutions.
- Assisting with FEM (Finite Element Method) simulations and structural analysis.
- Supporting prototyping, 3D printing, and the testing of mechanical components.
- Collaborating with electrical, systems, and production engineering teams.
- Helping prepare technical documentation and manufacturing-ready designs.
Your Qualifications
We are looking for someone curious, hands-on, and eager to learn.
Required
- Currently enrolled in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related degree programme.
- Basic experience with CAD software; SolidWorks is preferred.
- Interest in aircraft structures, UAVs, mechanical design, or aerospace technology.
- A structured and practical approach to solving engineering problems.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively.
- Motivation to take ownership of tasks and learn in a fast-paced engineering environment.
Nice to Have
- Basic knowledge of FEM or structural analysis.
- Experience with 3D printing, prototyping, or workshop projects.
- Familiarity with composite materials or lightweight structures.
- Personal, university, or student-team projects involving aircraft, drones, robotics, or mechanical systems.
Previous professional experience is not required. We value technical curiosity, practical skills, and a genuine interest in aerospace engineering.
What We Offer
- Hands-on aerospace experience: Contribute to the development of real UAV platforms.
- Meaningful engineering work: Work on mechanical designs, prototypes, and practical engineering challenges.
- Learn from experienced engineers: Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team.
- Take ownership: Contribute ideas and see your work progress from concept to implementation.
- Industry exposure: Gain experience in a growing aerospace technology company.
- A Munich-based opportunity: Ideal for students studying in Munich or the surrounding area.
Who Should Apply?
This opportunity is ideal for students looking to gain practical engineering experience through an internship, practical semester, or university-related placement.
If you are passionate about mechanical engineering and want to help develop the next generation of UAV systems, we would love to hear from you!
