Introduction - Motivation & Relevance: The transition to a modern reporting engine at RAQUEST requires the migration of over 900 PDF templates and their adaptation to a new data model. This task is crucial for the product quality and scalability of the system and also offers a practical research topic at the interface of machine learning, program analysis, and document processing.
Project Description: The goal of this work is to develop an AI-supported process for the largely automated transfer of layout and data path information from the old to the new template format. In addition to the implementation of a prototype migration pipeline, a systematic evaluation of the migration quality and the influence of model and training parameters is planned.

Specific Tasks / Work Packages

• Analysis of old and new template formats as well as the current data model
• Data collection and processing (sample templates, metadata)
• Development of an AI-based mapping (e.g. rule-based + ML components) for the extraction and mapping of layout/field information
• Implementation of a migration prototype including test and validation pipeline
• Quantitative evaluation (metrics for data path mapping accuracy, layout similarity, reduction of manual effort)
• Documentation, final report and, if applicable, scientific evaluation
