Location: St. Paul, MN

Purpose:

This position provides comprehensive, community-based services to individuals with severe and persistent mental illness (SPMI) and co-occurring chemical dependency as part of Guild’s Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team. The therapist collaborates with an interdisciplinary team to deliver person-centered, recovery-oriented, and strength-based therapeutic interventions to enhance client functioning and quality of life while minimizing hospitalizations and external resource reliance. The ACT Therapist also works closely with the Clinical Supervisor to provide clinical guidance and support to the team.

Key Responsibilities:

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual therapy utilizing evidence-based therapies for clients with SPMI and co-occurring disorders in community-based settings.
  • Assess and monitor the mental health needs of clients, including completing diagnostic assessments, and updating treatment plans as needed.
  • Collaborate with other service providers and natural supports, ensuring clear communication and coordination of services.
  • Actively participate in team meetings and care conferences to discuss client progress and share insights with team members.
  • Complete required documentation in compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in professional development activities, continuing education, and supervision as required by licensure and team needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support client care and department operations.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of mental health diagnoses and evidence-based treatments for adults with Severe and Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI), particularly psychotic disorders and co-occurring substance use disorders.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based therapeutic interventions and treatment modalities.
  • Familiarity with community resources, county benefits, and mental health services.
  • Strong rapport-building, assessment, and crisis intervention skills, including de-escalation and connecting clients to higher levels of care.
  • Skilled in identifying early signs of psychosis and managing symptoms using therapeutic approaches.
  • Capable of managing a caseload, prioritizing tasks, and meeting deadlines in a dynamic, community-based environment.
  • Ability to develop and maintain receptive, open, and approachable lines of communication with clients and staff, and provide a friendly environment for visitors.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including composing, proofreading, and editing.
  • Presentation and meeting facilitation skills.
  • Ability to work as a proactive and positive member of a team to deliver quality services.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of organization, personnel information, and client data.
  • Ability to use sound judgment and maintain healthy professional boundaries.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and set priorities.
  • Proficiency with a variety of web-based software and databases, including Microsoft Office Suite.

Working Conditions:

  • This position is based in the program office; however, the majority of work is in the field as services are provided to clients wherever needed.
  • Some activities may be required in the community.
  • Travel may be required to other program sites.
  • Requires transporting clients in a personal vehicle regularly.
  • This position has the potential to come into contact with bodily fluids, communicable diseases, tobacco smoke, and household pets.
  • Prolonged periods at a desk, working on a computer.
  • Manual dexterity for tasks such as taking notes, using technological devices for documentation, or assisting clients with certain activities if needed.
  • Must be ambulatory and able to negotiate stairways.
  • The ability to lift and carry heavy weights that could be up to 40 pounds.

Education and Experience:

Mental Health Professional qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in one of the behavioral sciences
  • Current clinical license as a mental health professional in Minnesota with no restrictions (LICSW, LPCC, LMFT, LP).

Clinical Trainee qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in one of the behavioral sciences.
  • Working toward clinical licensure as defined by the appropriate licensing board (LICSW, LPCC, LMFT, or LP)

Preferred

  • 2 years of professional experience working with individuals with severe and persistent mental illness in a community-based or ACT setting.

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid Driver's License, reliable vehicle, satisfactory driving record, and required insurance.
  • Availability for 24/7 on-call crisis support on a rotating schedule.
  • Must not be currently receiving or have received services from Guild Incorporated within the last two years.

The salary range for this position is between $60,000 and $72,000 annually. The range reflects the minimum and maximum salary for the position. Compensation will depend on the candidate’s professional experience, skills, and relevant education, training, and certifications.
