Position Summary
This position involves supporting student learning and ensuring that high-quality literacy tutoring is delivered consistently and effectively, and that volunteer tutors are recruited and supported.
Responsibilities
Coordinate adjustments to schedules due to student enrollment changes.
Monitor school/site calendars, schedules, and safety procedures.
Maintain tutor schedules and arrange substitutes as needed.
Communicate with volunteer tutors about non-school days.
Coaching and Feedback for Volunteers
Provide on-site orientation for new volunteers.
Support and guide volunteer literacy tutors.
Coach volunteers to deliver sessions effectively, adhering to curriculum guidelines and literacy best practices.
Offer regular, positive feedback to tutors, encouraging ongoing development and commitment.
Assist volunteers in maintaining accurate timesheets and session notes using online systems.
Complete at least one formal observation and feedback conversation per volunteer each school year.
Report student or volunteer concerns to the program manager promptly.
Review volunteer session notes weekly to offer suggestions and supply relevant materials.
Be present and available during designated tutoring hours.
Share ESLC updates and information with volunteers.
2. Volunteer Recruitment
Together with other ESLC staff, recruit, interview and onboard new volunteer tutors.
Participate in data input for prospective volunteers.
Participate in outreach activities.
Organize and maintain tutoring space and materials for maximum success.
Escort students to and from the tutoring space.
Assist in providing appropriate read-aloud books for students.
Assist with student behavioral concerns.
4. Data Management
Work with program manager to:
· Manage and approve timesheets; ensure timely submission and accurate tracking.
· Store volunteer data securely, in compliance with confidentiality standards.
· Support and train volunteers in administering SEL (Social Emotional Learning) surveys three times per year.
· Collaborate with program managers in collecting student assessments and demographic data
· Administer student assessments three times annually and upon student entry/exit from the program.
· Communicate student progress to classroom teachers and Program Manager.
· Provide student performance summaries for parent-teacher conferences.
· Maintain accurate student attendance records.
Attend ESLC meetings, events and training as required.
Qualifications
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Experience working with children and/or volunteers preferred.
- Commitment to literacy education and the mission of ESLC.
- Ability to use digital tools for scheduling, data entry, and communication.
- Availability during assigned tutoring hours and for occasional meetings/trainings.
