The Chair of the Division "Social and Institutional Change in Agricultural Development" at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences of the University of Hohenheim invites applications for a Research Associate Position (Part Time) (m/w/d, TV-L E13, 50 %, fixed term).The Research Associate is expected to contribute to the research and teaching program of the division, which deals with agricultural development, focusing on the economic, institutional, political and social dimensions of agriculture and food systems in the Global South.
The Research Associate has the opportunity to join a creative internationally recognized team, which offers a supportive environment for innovative research and teaching in the field of agricultural development and sustainable food systems. The position offers excellent opportunities for early career candidates, who are interested in pursuing a Habilitation (post-doctoral degree) and want to combine this position with a project-funded part-time position.
The position involves the following tasks :
- Contribution to the research program of the division, which involves writing project proposals; interaction with research partners; advising M.Sc. and PhD candidates; conducting field research; writing publications; contributing to project administration; and
- contribution to the teaching program of the division, including preparing and delivering lectures; and advising students. The teaching obligation is two hours per week (during the semester).
We invite applications of candidates who fulfill the following requirements :
- PhD in agricultural economics, rural development or related field;
- empirical research experience in countries of the Global South;
- proven ability to apply qualitative research methods;
- publications in recognized international journals;
- excellent command of the English language in speaking and writing; and
- willingness to travel and spend research time in the field in the Global South.
The University offers a temporary 50% public service position (E13) with all associated social security benefits. The preferred starting date is May 1, 2026 . The position is subject to the German Academic Fixed-Term Contract Act ( Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz ), which limits the post-doc period on a University position.
