The Austrian Centre for Digital Humanities (ACDH), a research institute of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (OeAW), Austria’s leading non-university research institution, is seeking a

DH CONSULTANT WITH FOCUS ON MACHINE LEARNING (F/M/D)

(20-40h per week)

You will join an internationally networked team, pursuing research at the intersection between information and communication technology and humanities studies. You will support researchers in developing projects from a variety of humanities displines with a potential for employing Machine Learning methods for various data analysis and enrichment tasks.

Your Tasks

• Support researchers in conceptualising and formulating project applications together with the ACDH Consulting Team

• Advise existing projects regarding potential uses of AI/ML methods, esp. LLMs and RAGs, on domain-specific problems

• research on state-of-the art solutions and their critical evaluation, in collaboration with the other technical and scholarly team members from research unit DH Research and Infrastructure

• contributing to internal knowledge sharing and training activities

• coordinating the institute’s activities in the area of AI, esp. development of policies and best practices

Your Profile

• background in the field of digital humanities or a related field, e.g. computational linguistics or computer science

• practical/extended experience in applying AI/ML methods, preferably on data/questions in the humanities

• team player with independent working style and passion for open source and open data

The initial annual gross salary is EUR 51.930,76 (for full-time employment) in accordance with the collective agreement for employees of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. Based on your experience and academic degree a higher salary is negotiable. The employment will start at the earliest in October 2025 and run initially until end of 2026, with the option of conversion to indefinite duration.
