The Austrian Archaeological Institute, Department for Prehistory & West Asian/Northeast African Archaeology (OeAI) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (OeAW), Austria’s leading non-university research and science institution, is offering a position as
Postdoc (f/m/x) in Neolithic pottery studies
(part-time, 20h per week)
The successful candidate will be part of Prof. Barbara Horejs’ research group “Prehistoric Phenomena” and will work in close collaboration with the ceramic lab at the OeAI for 2 years. The successful candidate is expected to manage the Neolithic pottery recording, publication and analytical programs related with ceramics from Svinjarička Čuka, Serbia. Active engagement in publications of the materials is required, and developing related or follow-up research with the material is welcome.
Your Tasks
- Managing the pottery recording on-site (field lab, museums’ depot)
- Coordination of technicians, students and volunteers in the labs; managing the analytical program by supporting the preparation of samples
- Lab work at the OeAI Vienna for data management (project database), analyses and interpretation
- Preparation of basic pottery publication (catalogue, meta data, tables, statistics)
Your Profile
- Ph.D. or equivalent degree in archaeology or prehistory
- Experience in pottery studies
- Abilities and willingness to participate in international and interdisciplinary co-operations as well as publication activity
- Fluent command of English
- Excellent IT Knowledge (MS Office, Zoom, Adobe, GIS etc.)

The minimum annual gross salary for this position is EUR 70.167,44 (full-time based), in accordance with the collective agreement of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW). For part-time employment, the salary will be adjusted on a pro rata basis in line with the agreed working hours.
