BESS Engineer – Utility-Scale Battery Storage (m/f/d)

I’m currently working with an established international renewable energy developer who is looking to appoint a BESS Engineer to support the technical development of its growing battery energy storage portfolio across Germany.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on large-scale standalone and co-located Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects, taking responsibility for technical design, system sizing and optimisation throughout the project development lifecycle.

You’ll play an important role in developing technically and commercially viable energy storage solutions, working closely with project development, engineering and grid connection teams.

The Role

Your responsibilities will include:

• Designing and sizing standalone and co-located utility-scale BESS projects.

• Developing technical concepts and system configurations based on project requirements.

• Assessing battery technologies, capacity requirements, power ratings and storage durations.

• Supporting technical feasibility studies and project optimisation.

• Evaluating battery suppliers, equipment specifications and technical proposals.

• Working closely with grid connection teams to ensure compatibility with grid requirements.

• Supporting technical due diligence and project development through to Ready-to-Build (RTB).

• Coordinating with external consultants, suppliers and internal engineering teams.

What They’re Looking For

• Experience in BESS engineering, battery storage or electrical engineering within the energy sector.

• Proven experience in the design and sizing of utility-scale battery storage systems.

• Understanding of standalone and co-located BESS configurations.

• Knowledge of battery technologies, energy storage systems and associated electrical infrastructure.

• Understanding of grid connection requirements and power system fundamentals.

• Experience supporting utility-scale renewable energy projects.

• Strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills.

• Fluent German and good English communication skills.
