“Improving knowledge transfer between research institutions and industry across Europe: embracing open innovation” is an important Communication from the European Commission setting out its innovation strategy. Its decision that the importance of improving knowledge transfer between public research institutions and third parties as one of ten key areas for action demonstrates the position that knowledge transfer and management now hold. Improving the economic success of tomorrow’s energy, environment and food industrial sectors depends on bridging the gap that all too often exists between principal investigators, industry leaders, and key decision makers.
