Company:
can2close is a Munich-based startup devoted to developing and bringing to the market an elegant, no-compromise solution for resealable beverage cans. The company was founded and incorporated as a GmbH in 2012. The four founders together have more than a decade of entrepreneurial experience and deep business, operations and product development know-how. The team is ideally positioned to successfully develop the technology and bring it to the market as a viable business solution.
The solution is an improved opening mechanism for beverage cans that also allows for resealing. It will be marketed to beverage brands as a way to increase the desirability of their products by offering an improved usage experience and more potential occasions for use.
Product:
Regular beverage cans are made of two aluminum parts: a cup-like body and a sealed can end with a stay-on tab to open the can. Once such a can has been opened by using the stay-on tab as a lever to break an opening in the can end, it is not possible to reseal the can again.
The can2close concept is built upon the standard aluminum can end, utilizing an additional flap attached underneath the can end instead of the standard opening mechanism. The traditional tab is replaced with a swiveling tab that pushes the flap down when turned 180 degrees in either direction, creating an opening in the can end. Turning the tab further gradually moves the flap back to its original position. After a full turn of the swiveling tab, the flap reaches its starting position again, pushing against the can end from underneath to create an airtight seal that reseales the can. Through this mechanism, it is possible to open and reseal the beverage can as many times as desired.
For consumers, resalable cans offer a number of advantages over standard cans including the ability to portion, longer freshness after the first opening, on-the-go consumption, reduced risk of spilling and increased protection from contaminants like stinging insects, discarded cigarettes and even predatory drugs.
