A mainstay of Chicago, Illinois’ River North neighborhood, the East Bank Club (EBC) offers a huge selection of sports, exercise, fitness, and dining options to over 11,000 members. Operating under the direction of Simon Meredith for 30 years, EBC is the gold standard in health and fitness clubs. In his current role as General Manager, Simon Meredith oversees the 450,000-square-foot multipurpose East Bank Club. Over five stories high and taking up nearly two city blocks, EBC offers its members access to an indoor golf training center, a one-quarter-mile indoor track, a world class spa, squash and tennis courts, and extensive cardiovascular and strength training areas.
Originally from England, Simon Meredith graduated from law school in 1975. During the summer of 1976, while visiting his sister, Mr. Meredith decided to take a summer position instructing tennis students in Wisconsin. After visiting a friend at the U.S. Open in New York, Simon Meredith opted for a new job opportunity with the Evergreen Bath and Tennis Club in Chicago. From his new position as Head Tennis Pro, Simon Meredith worked his way up through the company, eventually becoming Director of Tennis for two Evergreen clubs in Chicago.
While at Evergreen, Mr. Meredith heard of a new sports club of gigantic proportions being proposed for downtown Chicago. Twenty-four years old and eager to apply himself, Simon Meredith approached the developers of the proposed club and secured an interview. Simon Meredith received an offer and became the first Assistant General Manager at the East Bank Club, embarking on a career that has lasted 30 years and shows no signs of stopping.
