Die Geologische Bundesanstalt (GBA)

ist die größte geowissenschaftliche Forschungseinrichtung in Österreich. Dem Bundesministerium für Bildung, Wisssenschaft und Forschung nachgeordnet, erhebt und interpretiert sie geowissenschaftliche Information in ganz Österreich, erarbeitet Grundlagen zur nachhaltigen Nutzung des geogenen Potenzials und stellt sie der Allgemeinheit in systematischer Weise zur Verfügung. Die Hauptaktivitäten liegen in der geologischen Kartierung, der Untersuchung von Rohstoffen, Naturgefahren sowie der Trinkwasserversorgung und Energiegewinnung durch Geothermie. Laufend erfolgt eine Teilnahme an einer großen Zahl von internationalen Projekten. 1849 gegründet ist sie der älteste geologische Dienst Kontinentaleuropas und Gründungsmitglied des EuroGeoSurveys.

The Geological Survey of Austria (Geologische Bundesanstalt - GBA)

is the largest geoscientific research center in Austria. As a research institution of the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research, it collects and interprets geoscientific information, providing it to the public and laying the foundation for sustainable use of the country’s geogenic potential. The main activities are geological mapping, the study of mineral resources and geological hazards as well as investigations for the sustainable supply of drinking water and geothermal energy recovery. Founded in 1849, it is the oldest geological survey in continental Europe and founding member of EuroGeoSurveys - continuously and actively participating in a large number of international projects.
