Über uns
Welcome to ILL - Institut Laue Langevin
World leader in neutron research, science and technology
The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL) was named in honour of two distinguished scientists, the Frenchman, Paul Langevin, and the German, Max von Laue. The Institute, which began life as a Franco-German scientific collaboration, is today financed by France, Germany and the United Kingdom, as well as by 11 other countries.
Ever since it was founded in 1967, the ILL’s success as a thriving centre of scientific research has continued to grow thanks to a number of key strengths:
- Its internationally recognised scientific expertise, which has helped to establish the ILL as the world’s flagship neutron research centre at the leading edge of neutron science and technology.
- The breadth of the research carried out at the ILL, which covers a vast range of fundamental science topics in many different fields, including biology, chemistry, soft matter, nuclear physics and materials science, to name but a few.
- The outstanding service the Institute provides to visiting scientists from over 40 different countries, who every year take advantage of the ILL’s constantly upgraded facilities and instruments to conduct some 640 experiments at the Institute.
- A long and particularly rich multicultural history, with 30 different nationalities represented among the Institute's 580-strong workforce.
For over 50 years now, the Institute has been dedicated to promoting cutting-edge science, advancing knowledge and meeting the ever-changing challenges facing our societies. And the adventure continues...!
