Barbara Gordon leads research, education, and advocacy efforts for the Interstitial Cystitis Association (ICA) in Rockville, Maryland. Head of the Interstitial Cystitis Association since 2008, Barbara Gordon oversees national awareness campaigns and keeps ties with federal agencies, media outlets, industry, and community groups. Additionally, she advises a variety of people on scientific and legislative activities related to painful bladder syndrome.
As Executive Director, President, and CEO, Barbara Gordon has worked diligently to improve the Interstitial Cystitis Association. Gordon has dedicated additional funding to services and programs for painful bladder syndrome patients, researchers, and health care providers. She also led the Interstitial Cystitis Association in its evolution from humble beginnings to a board-run organization, a considerable accomplishment for a small nonprofit. In addition, Barbara Gordon has increased the Interstitial Cystitis Association’s online presence by connecting interstitial cystitis patients with one another through Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and blogs on the organization’s website.
Serving as publisher of the Interstitial Cystitis Association’s quarterly magazine, the ICA Update, and supervisor of the website www.ichelp.org, Barbara Gordon writes and edits online and print content for health care providers, patients with painful bladder syndrome, and many others. Gordon aids in translating the medical jargon of clinical research into clear, concise language in the Interstitial Cystitis Association’s literature. She also has co-written articles in medical journals. Barbara Gordon’s efforts have helped the nonprofit win the National Health Information Award.
Before her position with the Interstitial Cystitis Association, Barbara Gordon worked for the United States Air Force and several private sector health companies that consulted for federal agencies, including the United States Department of Health and Human Services, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the United States Department of Defense, the Health Resources and Services Administration, and the National Institutes of Health.
