New Britain Palm Oil Limited (NBPOL) is Papua New Guinea's largest oil palm plantation and milling operator. It is one of the first companies to be independently certified by the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil as being a world leader in the production of sustainable and ethical palm oil. Oil palm operations are based on the northern coast of West New Britain Province and are situated on the Western portion of the island of New Britain. The island lies to the east of Papua New Guinea mainland and is approximately 590 kilometres long and 80 kilometres wide. New Britain is situated in the Bismarck Archipelago between 4 and 6.5 degrees south of the equator. In 2004 NBPOL received ISO14001 Accreditation. In order to manage a large workforce (+/- 11,300 employees) NBPOL needs a strong management structure in place to ensure the labour intensive plantation operations run at an optimal level of efficiency. As the Human Resources Manager I am an integral part of this structure and oversee a broad gamut of HR functions ranging from strategic input and executive management support to Organisational Development, Industrial Relations, Succession Planning, Talent Development and overseeing NBPOL's International School, as well as the Company Medical Clinic. In these functions I am assisted by a capable team of 14 staff.
