The Northvolt–Volkswagen joint venture was established in 2019 with the principal intent to establish the Northvolt Zwei lithium-ion battery gigafactory in Salzgitter, Germany. Since the joint venture partners have decided to continue their cooperation in another way and to transfer the planned battery production to the Northvolt gigafactory in Skellefteå, they have terminated the joint venture with effect as of 30th June 2021. Consequently, Northvolt Zwei has stopped their business activities.
