OSC is a technology-focused marine science company involved principally in providing environmental services worldwide.
Our clients have included Media, Academia, Government, Defence, Consultancies, recruitment agencies, and a range of marine industries: Hydrographic (e.g. side-scan and multibeam surveys, including work-class Remote Operated Vehicle or ROV inspections), Geophysical (ElectroMagnetic or EM, Vertical Seismic Profiling or VSP, 2/3/4D seismic and drilling exploration), Oil & Gas (rigs, platforms, Floating Production Storage & Offloading installations or FPSOs, offshore support, guard and chase vessels), Pipeline & Cable Laying (including trenching, rock-dumping, side-casting and fall-pipe vessel operations), Marine Renewable Energy Device or MRED (underwater turbines, piling and construction for meteorological mast and wind turbine installations from Dynamic Positioning or DP vessels and jack-up barges), Decommissioning (rigs-to-reefs concept), Dredging (Trailer Suction Hopper Dredgers or TSHDs, split-hopper barges and backhoe jack-ups), Civil Engineering (e.g. quays, harbours and bridges) and Aquaculture.
Services include project planning, project management, scientific research (experiments and studies), environmental monitoring, field-data collection, data analysis and interpretation. More specifically, we provideMarine Mammal Observers (MMO), Marine Mammal & SeabirdObservers (MMSO), Protected Species Observers (PSO), seabird observers, distance sampling (dedicated vessel-based surveys to estimate marine mammal and other megafauna populations), Passive Acoustic Monitoring (PAM), T-POD and C-POD echolocation click detectors – autonomous (unmanned) Static Acoustic Monitoring Systems (SAMS), towed hydrophone arrays, static (autonomous) and dunking (manually deployed over-the-side) hydrophone systems, bioacoustics generally, underwater sound level and frequency measurement and noise-field propagation modelling, oceanographic sampling (e.g. Conductivity Temperature Depth or CTD measurements), literature reviews, advice documents, Environmental Impact (& risk) Assessments (EIAs), Marine Mammal Mitigation Plans or Protocols (MMMPs), for scientific research and/or environmental monitoring for compliance with industry permit requirements and regulatory guidelines. Environmental guidelines include those of Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC) in UK, National Parks & Wildlife Service (NPWS) in Ireland, Bureau of Minerals and Petroleum (BMP) in Greenland, National Environmental Research Institute (NERI) in Denmark, Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) and Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) in USA, Department of Fisheries & Oceans (DFO) in Canada, Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association (APPEA) and, most recently, Department of Conservation (DOC) in New Zealand, for which OSC was a voluntary adviser on request.
