Our story of hope and healing begins in 1781 , when Chobei Takeda 1 began selling traditional Japanese and Chinese herbal medicines in Doshomachi, the medicine district of Osaka , Japan. His small shop bought medicines from wholesalers, divided them into smaller batches, and sold them to local medicine merchants and doctors. He had a reputation for business integrity, and quality products and services—a tradition that lives on at Takeda.

Since then, and for more than 230 years, Takeda has brought hope to people around the world through our people-centered and innovation-driven approach to science and medicine. As a global pharmaceutical leader, we focus on solving unmet needs where we can make a real difference—and on putting patients first. Our therapeutics focus is oncology, gastroenterology, neuroscience, rare diseases, plasma-derived therapies, as well as vaccines.
