Modern Engineering: IT Product development and operations done by creative and responsible engineers, supported by perfectly matching tools and processes.
Development, in our understanding, includes all activities needed to create an IT product – from the idea up to the release to the end users.
Operations includes everything that is needed or helpful to support the availability of the product to the end users, including ways to collect and process feedback and user requests.
Engineers are professionals who use their broad skills and expertise to design, build, test and improve complex systems to fulfil requirements and needs. Engineering (as opposed to coding or any other ‘isolated’ activity in the software development world), includes the design of solutions in collaboration with end users and stakeholders, creative solution design, testing and improvement of the product. Engineers own their product, not one single component or process step of it.
To handle the fast-changing complexity of modern IT products and the aforementioned interaction of the engineers with the whole organization and/or even external clients and users, modern tools and processes need to be precisely defined and configured for the specific use case.
