TriOS - with Spectral sensoring to success

When in 1998 the TriOS Mess- und Datentechnik GmbH was founded, the further development was not foreseeable. With the under the project name RAMSES by the BMBF (Federal Ministry of education and Research) funded R & D project was laid in the foundation phase of TriOS GmbH the foundation for a success story in optical metrology. RAMSES was on the market the first available hyperspectral light meter for use in marine research.

Today, with over a thousand devices is used worldwide - the clear No. 1 in the world - the product name "RAMSES" is used as a synonym for compact, robust and reliable light-measurements. The devices are used both for measuring the light distribution in the water column as well as for validation and calibration of modern environmental satellite data (eg MERIS) routinely. The sensors have proven their reliability under many adverse environmental conditions such as in Antarctica, but also on unusual locations such as offshore racing yachts in the Volvo Ocean Race. Many a Norway-holidaymaker accompanies the instruments when certainly not consciously perceived, on your journey along the fjords on board of the ships of the Hurtigruten.

Today, from the since 2000 by Rüdiger Heuermann alone guided, former University spin-off, become a leader in the field of optical immersion sensors. In addition to the original RAMSES - radiometers, the TriOS product range has rapidly expanded. It was followed by submersible fluorometer (microFlu and enviroFlu) and photometer (ProPS, VIPER, OSCAR), whereby the business of TriOS Mess- und Datentechnik GmbH has expanded far beyond the field of marine technology out in the water quality, in the drinking water and wastewater monitoring and many industrial applications. Inter alia TriOS is one of the leading companies in the field of oil-in-water monitoring and thus makes a significant contribution to the reduction of pollution from oil spills.

By expanding the product range and increase the number of units produced, the need of production areas and qualified staff grew. So in July 2011, the move to the newly built headquarters in Rastede was carried.

Here were not only the workshop, laboratory and office space significantly increased. TriOS now also has its own mechanics manufacturing and is therefore a bit more independent. The number of employees has spread from 3 (1998) to current 31 employees (2013). Since 2009 TriOS has its own sales and service office in Shanghai.

The drive for innovation is TriOS remained faithful. The latest TriOS sensor on the market is LISA - a SAC254 probe. The device is characterized not only by energy saving UV LED technology, but also by the easy configuration through the innovative TriOS G2 interface. In addition, novel sensors for environmental parameters in cooperation with universities and research institutions are being developed in several research projects. Many of our customers are at the same time also partner in the development of new products.
