    Provide research and technical assistance on incarceration policy, pathways to prison and offending, and trauma interventions for juveniles and adults. Current work focuses on: violence in U.S. prisons and jails; work with states' departments of corrections to reduce number of prisoners held in segregation; and responses to juvenile status offenders. Recently finished NIJ study of national trends in serious violence and homicide by youth ages 15-24 from 1984-2006 for the 100 largest cities in US.

    Policy liaison and advisor: U.S. Congress and Federal Agencies. Acted as research and policy liaison to Dept of Justice, other agencies, and the U.S. Congress on violence, youth violence, girls' delinquency, community effects on violence perpetrated by residents, crime and justice issues, and preventive policy. Studied trends in homicide and severe violence perpetrated by youth from 1984-2006 for the 100 largest cities in the United States.

    Developed and conducted surveys on exposure to violence among teen youth in Boston Public Schools and on girls' involvement in violence. Liaison with City of Boston and Mayor's office. Member of Massachusetts' Governor's Juvenile Justice Advisory Committee. Collected life histories on women's pathways to prison at Bedford Hills Maximum Security Correctional facility in New York. Consulted to Florida's Dept of Juvenile Justice.
