Media Gateway Control Function (MGCF), a component in the IMS, communicates with the Call Session Control Function (CSCF) and controls the connections for media channels in an IMS-MGW. It performs protocol conversion between ISDN User Part (ISUP) and the IMS (SIP) call-control protocols. Calls from IMS to PSTN go via BGCF which select MGCF.
