Claudia Balsmeier

At the moment I am both working on a PhD at the Univeristy of Bielefeld and the "2. Staatsexamen" (teaching certificate) for teaching English and Mathematics at German Gymnasien. I teach at a school in North-Rhine Westfalia.

I work as a research/student assistant at the department of linguistics and literature studies. The group I work with designs questionnaires for the evaluation of all classes taught in the department. At the end of term we conduct the survey, process and analyze the data.

I work in the media library, advising students on how to learn foreign languages, which programs to use and sometimes classes to take.

I tutor children of all ages and school forms in English, mathematics and German. I also tutor adults in English (e.g. Business English, preparation for certain exams).

I worked as teaching assistant (tutor) for "Introduction to Analyzing and Interpreting Literary Texts / Survey of British Literature" and "A Survey of American Literature"

Together with two other research assistances I worked on the evaluation of the internet presence of the University of Bielefeld library. The project also included testing/analyzing the familiarity of students of different fields of study with the various possibilities to search for specific works.

I worked as an Au Pair in Springfield, VA. During that time I also had the opportunity to volunteer as an assistant Girls Scout leader and an assistant teacher.

I completed two internships at a Gymnasium as a "teacher" for English and mathematics.
