In my time at BCM I focused on short tandem repeat variants(STR), and their detection. We developed a simulator for artificial modifying human genomes (SimiSTR). With these genomes we were able to run comparisons on the current state of the art STR- callers to find current strength and weaknesses of such. The internship was remotely due to corona.
