My PhD research focused on one of the key challenges in numerical weather prediction: accurately forecasting the location and intensity of convective weather events, such as thunderstorms, which can have devastating impacts. Specifically, I investigated how soil moisture heterogeneity influences convective precipitation across Central Europe, using the numerical weather prediction model operational at the German Weather Service (DWD).
