Clinical Studies and Surveillance Department and Malaria Drug Resistance and Chemotherapy Laboratory: Managed implementation, surveillance and closure of a Dengue Vaccine Phase III study sponsored by Sanofi-Aventis at the AMI study site. Investigated temporary growth arrest in Plasmodium falciparum malaria as a plausible cause for treatment failure with artemisinin mono-therapy in vitro.

Malaria Biology Laboratory: Characterized four aminopeptidase enzymes involved in haemoglobin digestion of the malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum in order to demonstrate their potential as antimalarial drug targets.

Institute of Pharmaceutical Biology and Biotechnology: Screened marine fungi for potential bioactive natural products, isolated promising candidate compounds, elucidated their chemical structures and carried out further bioactivity testing. Lectured and supervised practical exercises for undergraduate students in the subjects "Pharmaceutical Biology" and "Cytology and Histology".
