Legal manager for Group Emerging Markets (Africa, CIS, Middle East, S.E. Asia & Latin America) & Novartis Pharma Services AG, exporting healthcare products to over 100 countries. Managed a multinational team of lawyers; advised upon, negotiated & drafted international commercial contracts regarding manufacture, supply, distribution and promotion of healthcare products; managed litigation and trade licensing applications; resolved branch office governance & compliance issues; liaised with tax advisors.

Responsibilities: Global lawyer for: Functional Chemicals Division; Clariant Oil Services business; Information Technology; Corporate Finance & Treasury; Sourcing; Core Process Redesign; English law litigation & insurance claims. Head of Compliance (re US SEC & UK LSE). Projects: issue of inaugural €600 million Eurobond on LSE; creation of credit insurance programme; multi-national outsourcing of IT services & network; global harmonisation of general terms & conditions of purchase and supply.

Responsibilities: Clariant UK & Eire Group Insurance; FUN & Masterbatch UK divisional lawyer; dormant company liquidation programme; member of Human Resources and Environmental, Health & Safety Strategy Groups; negotiation/mediation of international commercial contracts. Projects: sale of Lancaster Synthesis business – multi-million pound international transaction; sale of Widnes site, outsourcing of Facilities Management; internal re-structuring; and successful defence of industrial disease claims.

Independent barrister practising criminal, family & civil law. Prosecuted & defended regularly in the courts of the North Eastern Circuit. Appeared before Circuit & District Judges in the County Court, including fast track trials, applications for civil injunctions & winding up orders, and contested liability and quantum hearings. Significant court successes: rescission of contract for misrepresentation re sale of Rolex watches; damages for breach of agency contract for a nation-wide employment agency.

Involved in major fraud investigations and the tracing of assets in relation to "money laundering".
