As a precursor project EGNOS was a cooperation of ESA, the EC and several national air traffic control institutions and Eurocontrol. After the Factory Qualification Review the final qualification of the distributed system, the final acceptance and the preparation of the safety case for the certification of the system for safety of life applications were included in the duty of the EGNOS PA Manager. The activity required highly interaction between all the partners of the project and contributing industries.

Within the proposal management several proposals needed to evaluate the risk before being transmitted. Related Risk assessments were forming an internal activity within the Bid/no Bid process within the company

Within the proposal generation for XEUS the need for storing goods at the ISS or close to the ISS was encountered due to the size and weight of the mirror extensions. The idea to store the elements within a controlled environment was raised as Space Warehouse and identified as an interesting study topic within the regular course on System Engineering Qualification. Mentoring the group of young engineers was a very good experience.

Proposal Manager and designated study manager for the Phase A proposal of XEUS from astrium. Beside the coordination of 26 company internal units wishing to contribute the international consortium needed to be consolidated. Unfortunately ESA did not assign the project at that time.

In preparation of the astrium ISO 9001 certification several internal audits needed to be performed and the topics "Risk Management" and "Customer satisfaction" were evaluated at different sites of the company

The activities focussed on subcontracts management for - the COLUMBUS Data Management System developed by Matra Marconi Space - the Laptop Application Software developed by Alenia Spazio - the Core Application Software developed by Space Software Italy The function of Deputy of the overall Department Manager for Implementation Management COLUMBUS was included, too

As a result of the Entrepreneur program of airbus the company Rode & Norrenbrock GmbH was founded. The company was designing and trading with telephone cards using space motives, e.g. from Arianespace. When the hype on telephone cards ended, the company was closed down.

The Data Management System for Russia consists of the main computer for a Russian element of the ISS. The activities to manage included all hardware and software product assurance disciplines.

The activities covered included for the site: - all Software Product Assurance activities - all Configuration Management activities (up to end of 1994) - all Product Assurance activities in conjunction with Columbus (the European part of the ISS) - all sales and proposal related activities for the whole Product Assurance resort The workforce managed was up to 30 colleagues

Within the overall transfer of ESA PSS requirements into a European wide coordinated standardization regime the need to establish rules for Software Product Assurance resulted in the first issue of ECSS-Q-80. As representative of airbus the role of the industrial side was taken.

Nominated members from all sites of the company met regularly for information and knowledge exchange in the area of software product assurance and reporting to the coordination group for product assurance on regular basis was requested.

Within this German study the need for an independent, third party (beside customer and supplier) within space projects was evaluated. The need for a kind of space TueV was not confirmed.

The provision of a User Requirements Document for Computer Aided Software Product Assurance (CASPA) was the main activity. CASPA was divided into two main parts, the software product assurance data base containing all information storage, retrieval and usage and the software product assurance tool set addressing all tools for measure the quality of software.
