Evaluating new designs of hearing-aid microphones and receivers, in terms of their effect on the performance of hearing-aid DSP functions, such as beamforming and feedback cancellation. Gained in-depth knowledge of current hearing-aid technology.

Developed data analytics technology for extracting useful information from large volumes of sensor data. Main focus on applying audio sensing in large-area security and safety systems.

Developed and tested technology for acoustic sensing of hostile gunfire on military aircraft and ground vehicles.

Researched multi-microphone noise reduction technology. Developed and tested prototype multi-microphone systems to enable far-talk telephony and speech recognition, in hands-free car kits and mobile handsets.

Designed and tested microphone assembly for HALO™ hostile artillery location system. Developed and patented three techniques for tracking the position of cardiac catheters during surgery.

Collaborated with Marconi and Lotus Engineering to develop novel multi-microphone noise reduction technique for hands-free speech recognition in cars. Part-time PhD. Carried out research for Nokia, modelling performance of directional microphones in mobile phone handsets, building and testing a prototype, which led to a patent.

Developed a software tool that models engine-noise attenuation in vehicle exhaust systems, and validated this model using exhaust noise measurements.
