Dr. Jörg Fischer

At SICK AG, I have been working as a Senior Engineer in embedded software and platform engineering, focusing on industrial communication, software architecture, and development enablement. My work includes building reusable C++ components, improving CI/CD and test automation, and delivering integration approaches across multiple product teams. I also contribute to technical documentation, onboarding support, and internal training on modern development practices, including AI-assisted coding workflows.

Co-founder and Lead Software Engineer at CorTec (medical device startup). Built the C++/Qt software platform for an active brain implant, implemented firmware-related components, and set up CI/CD (Jenkins, GoogleTest/Mock). Introduced EN 62304/ISO 13485 processes for software development.

As a Research Associate at the University of Freiburg, I developed C++ software for real-time brain-signal processing, integrated neurotechnology hardware, and translated experimental needs into robust engineering. I supported prototype validation in lab and clinical settings, collaborated across neuroscience and engineering teams, and contributed to spin-off preparation through early product planning, investor pitch support, and business concept work that led into the founding phase of CorTec GmbH in 2011.

At Frei GmbH, I developed Java-based configuration and GUI tools for a security management system and integrated subsystems such as alarm panels, access control, and building automation through C++ drivers. I contributed to a new distributed system architecture, set up automated build and CI processes with Ant/CruiseControl, and handled testing, troubleshooting, and technical documentation.

Doctoral research focused on real-time software for brain-computer interfaces. Developed and validated C++ signal-processing software in lab and clinical contexts. This work contributed to the technological and entrepreneurial foundation that later led to the spin-off founding of CorTec GmbH.
