Surface mount components were made using a screen printing of an oxide based powder/paste and a sintering process that determined the electrical properties of the unit. There were many process variables and when I joined the process yield on this line was not much better than 20% and had remained so for the previous six years. By using Lean and Statistical techniques I managed to improve the yield to about 80% in eighteen months.

I had two positions with Ford each for 3 years 1992 - 1996 Manufacturing Engineer responsible for the tachometer assembly process. This included electronic assembly as well as assembly and calibration. The process improvement activity centred on Theory of Constraints as well as the application of statistical methods. 1989 - 1992 My first job was as a quality engineer where I had responsibility for the supervision of 10 quality inspectors along with the Quality Reporting system
