Elucidation of the biosynthesis of dimeric polyketides in ascomycetes. The work mainly focussed on the naphtho-alpha-pyrones vioxanthin and viriditoxin. Additionally, the biosynthesis of dimeric tetrahydroxanthones was studied. Enzymes were functionally characterized via gene knock-outs (CRISPR/Cas9, homologous recombination) or heterologous expression (E. coli, S. cerevisiae, A. niger). Products of enzymatic conversions were analyzed via HPLC-DAD, HPLC-DAD-MS, CD, NMR.
