A voluntary year of social service in Germany includes working in a social working place, like a school, kindergarten, retirement home, etc. . It is meant for school graduates who want to gather first working experiences while receiving guidance. I did my voluntary year of social service in a kindergarten, where I had to take care of a 4-year old child with down-syndrome. I had to integrate him into the rest of the group, take care of his needs and teach him important life skills.
