Dr. Max Kinateder

Adjunct Research Professor in Cognitive Science at Carleton University.

I am Research Officer at the National Research Council Canada, working on human factors in fire safety.

I am postdoc at the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH. I am working on perception and action in emergency situations, and my research interest include collective behavior an perception in emergency evacuation. I use highly immersive virtual reality (various and HMD and Cave Systems) and augmented reality (MS Hololens) as well as more classical field and lab studies.

I use virtual reality (VR) to study human behavior in emergency situations, evacuation behavior, and social influence in emergencies (e.g., during tunnel or building fires). The aim of my work is to contribute to a better understanding of human behavior in emergency situations. I am particularly interested in how people affect each other in their evacuation behavior and how we can improve evacuation outcomes.

At NIST I was working on human factors related questions in high-rise buildings with a focus on elevator evacuation and risk perception.

Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter, PhD student im Forschungsprojekten zu zivilen Sicherheit. Im Rahmen der Projekte SKRIBT und SKRIBT+ habe ich zu Fluchtverhalten bei Braenden in Strassentunneln geforscht. Zudem habe ich diverse Lehrveranstaltungen im Diplom und BA Studiengang Psychologie angeboten.
