Implementing a smart trolleybus system in order to use existing trolleybus system infrastructure as effectively and efficiently as possible by avoiding conventional network expansion measures. In addition, possibilities for the direct integration of renewable in-feeds ,e.g., photovoltaic systems, and the storage technologies (electro-mobility and stationary large-scale storage) are researched, simulated and tested.

The Institute of Electrical Power Supply Technology deals with highly research issues in the field of energy transition. Together with partners from industry, distribution grid operators and other research institutions, new approaches are being developed for the efficient integration of renewable energies and electro-mobility into the energy supply grids. The chair has been under the direction of Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Markus Zdrallek since 2010 and currently employs a total of over 50 staff.

The M.Sc. programme aims to convey knowledge of sustainable energy supply in the European context. The main focus of teaching centres on the concept of safe, affordable, and environmentally friendly energy generation as one of the most urgent global challenges of the 21st century. The programme covers the entire spectrum of energy research in the field of traditional as well as renewable energies, with about one third of all lectures and seminars being given by industry professionals.
