I am the managing partner of McGregor & Partners, a boutique commercial law firm based in Bucharest, Romania and Sofia, Bulgaria. I also deal with projects and transactions in Serbia, Moldavia and elsewhere in the region, as clients require. I have been listed in Legal 500 as a recommended individual for corporate / M&A work and as “highly recommended” by Global Counsel 3000 for energy matters. Apart from the purely legal work, the value that I add is to bring a practical approach to transactions.

I have been the company secretary of Nene Valley Railway Limited (the "NVR") since 1994. This company owns and operates some 14 kilometres of private railway lines in northern Cambridgeshire, in the United Kingdom, offering public passenger, freight and other railway services. In this role I am responsible for corporate governance matters and for the compliance by the company with applicable legislation on companies, reporting to the board of directors. The company is also registered as a charity.

I became a partner in Stephenson Harwood on the merger with Sinclair Roche & Temperley in 2002. At the same time, local legislation required the office to be converted from a branch of the firm in London to a local law firm. I became the founding managing partner of this local firm, which is now called McGregor & Partners (please see above). We became an independent but associated firm of Stephenson Harwood in 2004, at which point I stepped down from the international partnership there.

I was appointed as the first resident expatriate in the regional office of Sinclair Roche & Temperley in 1996 and moved out to Bucharest from London. Sinclair Roche & Temperley specialised in shipping, trade and transport and had operated in Romania since before the 1989 revolution. I became a partner in 2000 and the firm merged with Stephenson Harwood in 2002.
