Dr. Panah Liravi

Prior to commencing my PhD I worked as a research technician for Prof Michelle Peckham & Peter Knight group at the University of Leeds under the supervision of Dr Marcin Wolny. In this role I exploit a number of techniques in the process of protein production, bacterial cell culture and protein purification with AKTA.

Supervised practical sessions on mutagenesis, cloning, protein production and purification under supervision of Dr Aysha Divan.

I have worked under supervisio of Professor Steve Baldwin and Dr Vincent Postis Screening phage display libraries to identify antibody-mimetic proteins that selectively bind to a bacterial nucleoside transporter. Key techniques used: Phage display, Protein labeling, cloning, membrane protein production and purification, western Blotting, BCA assays, protein expression optimization.

I worked under the supervision of Professor Steve Baldwin and Steve Evens under the project "Finding Novel approaches for the nanoscale manipulation of membrane proteins" by Investigating the molecular mechanisms of membrane transport proteins, in particular those responsible for the passage of nucleosides and nucleoside drugs across membranes.This role involved the use of various techniques including bacterial cell culture and membrane protein purification, reconstitution of membrane protein

My Master project was a multi disciplinary project between biology and physic department. This project provided me with an excellent experience in biotechnological methods including mutagenesis, protein purification and assay. I was supervised by Dr Andrea Rawlings, Stephen Baldwin, Sarah staniland during my Master project.
