Dr. Rolf Versteeg

I work as a laser engineer (AIT) on the construction of the spaceborne lidar laser assembly for the MERLIN satellite. This ultrarobust and spectrally pure pulsed laser source permits measuring atmospheric methane concentrations from the low earth orbit over a foreseen operational lifetime of multiple years.

I developed a field-of-view optical sensor which can be used to acquire nanometer resolution 3D topographies.

I worked as a research associate and laser laboratory manager. I focused on broadband deep-UV laser pulse generation and light-matter interaction in transparent semiconductors. In addition I worked on the commissioning of an x-ray spectrometer at the Swiss free electron laser SwissFEL. I lectured a master-study course on laser physics.

My work in Cologne consisted of designing and developing optical spectroscopic instrumentation. I worked with research and industrial grade continuous and pulsed laser systems, optical imaging systems, optoelectronics, and device control. I supervised multiple students, and gave various physics exercise classes.

Meine Doktorarbeit befasste sich mit magneto-optischer Wechselwirkung und Halbleiterphysik, und wurde mit dem WE-Heraeus Ernst-Ising-Dissertationspreis der Fachgruppe Physik der Universität zu Köln gewürdigt . Ich habe zwei Spektroskopiesysteme konstruiert, und konnte somit breite praktische Erfahrungen sammeln mit dem Arbeiten mit kontinuierliche und pulsierte Lasersysteme, klassische und nichtlineare Optik, Abbildung, und optische Spektrometrie.
