Shahin Kamalodin

Working in the International Macroeconomic Research team of the Economic Research Dept. Conducting research on the business cycles of the European economies (with particular specialization on Germany). Regular presentations on the global economy are also given to both internal and external clients. In this capacity, I am also conducting research for my Ph.D. thesis. The main theme is prediction of financial crises through the creation of appropriate early warning systems.

The traineeship was in the following departments for a period of 2 months each: (1) Economic research, (2) Treasury and structured finance, (3) Fixed income sales and trading, (4) Asset management, (5) Derivative sales and trading

Performed research for the master thesis where the effect of newly constructed financial products such as MBSs, CDOs and CDSs on bank lending and the credit cycle was investigated through vector error correction models.

Conducted research on: 1. The emergence of China and India as global economic powerhouses (publication: “Chindia: A Tale of Two Giants”). 2. The sustainability of the global imbalances in collaboration with the chief economist of ABN AMRO (Han de Jong). The article was published in the Liber Amicorum of Prof. Hans Visser (Free university of Amsterdam).
