Optimization of an experimental setup for laser shock peening (LSP), parameter study for optimal LSP treatment of selective laser melted Ti-6Al-4V, metallographic preparation and microstructure analysis, residual stress measurements with XRD.

Design and fabrication of fatigue testing samples made of Ti-6Al-4V with a selective laser melting system, analysis of porosity by X-ray computed tomography and metallography techniques.

Performance of different mechanical tests with sandwich structures for satellites (shear, compression, tensile) and preparation of associated technical reports.

Tensile testing of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) specimens, programming of data acquisition software with Labview.

Test specimen preparation, hardness testing of welded samples and documentation.

Manufacturing and testing of elastomer test specimens in tensile and compression tests.

Basic metalworking practices such as lathing, milling, welding.

The I.DEAR-Materials program offers German students to study one year abroad in Argentina funded by the CUAA (Centro universitario argentino-alemán). They take classes at the university for one semester and do an internship in a renowned industrial company for four to six months as well.

The ATLANTIS program is a four-year transatlantic double bachelor program, which is awarded with both a European and an American Bachelor of Science degree in “Materials Science” from Saarland University and “Mechanical Engineering” from Oregon State University.
