Sofia Wilhelm

During my research, I maintained and cultivated Palmaria palmata strains and performed physiological, biochemical, and transcriptomic analyses. I applied high-throughput phenotyping for growth analysis and conducted photosynthetic measurements. My work included cryopreservation, biochemical assays, RNA extraction, and statistical data analysis (ANOVA, t-tests, correlations).

During my role, I was involved in science communication and public outreach on climate change and its impacts on ecosystems, particularly in polar regions. I organized and conducted training events and workshops, participated in public exhibitions, and supported the editorial work of the information platform www.meereisportal.de

During my work, I collected and analyzed global data on marine litter distribution and its interactions. I also contributed to the visualization of this data by creating interactive maps and diagrams for the platform www.litterbase.org

During my volunteer work, I was involved in monitoring and protecting sea turtle nests, documenting turtle tracks, and supervising hatchling emergence. In addition, I supported daily operations in a turtle hospital, contributing to the care and rehabilitation of injured animals.

During my research internship, I participated in a DAAD-funded PhD project investigating Amaryllidaceae alkaloids. My work focused on understanding their biosynthesis and metabolic regulation. I applied metabolic engineering approaches to improve the efficiency and sustainability of plant and microbial production systems and worked on the cultivation and expression of target pathways in the microalga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii.
