Within the Organs-on-a-Chip platform we are working towards building a Brain-on-a-Chip. Currently I am characterizing the extracellular matrix of different brain regions in vitro and in vivo using neonate and adult rat brain sections as well as neuronal and non-neuronal primary neonate rat cultures.

We were interested in the functions of various proteases in different organs. I was specifically interested to identify cathepsin K functions in the mouse central nervous system, using cathepsin K-deficient and wildtype mice and analysing brain sections, primary astrocyte cultures, and brain homogenates.
