Project: “Translational center for Molecular Epidemiology of Listeria” (TranCeLis)"

The 'Fulbright-Nehru Doctoral Research Fellowship' was received to study the mechanism responsible for the biofilm formation of pathogenic bacteria. As a part of my Ph.D. work, this study was focused on the Listeria monocytogenes, a food-borne pathogen, that can form biofilm in the food processing environment and contaminate the food. The study showed sortaseA, a transpeptidase that anchors surface proteins to the cell wall, plays an important role in the biofilm-forming ability of Listeria monocytogenes.

Project: “Indo-German Consortium for Epidemiology and Comparative Genomics of Listeria.” (InGeLis) Key tasks: Pulsed-field gel electrophoresis, developing PCR-based diagnostic tests to detect L. monocytogenes in food, clinical, and environmental samples. Characterization of foodborne and zoonotic pathogens.
