I was part of a team of three people developing an optical microscope for biomedical research. Using Fourier holography as an imaging technique, we were able to develop an instrument that allowed the localised characterisation of particles as small as 2um over a field of view of several mm. Applications for such an instrument include early cancer diagnosis based on the growth of cell nuclei.
