I manage the System Verification Milan team, testing Call Handling in GSM/UMTS Radio Access Networks. Before the closure of UMR Releases and ramp-down of BR ones, the team reached the consistency of local 20 employees / 40 externals and remote 30 Testers in Zagreb / Beijing, in coordination with Munich SV until the “Location by Project” NSN Strategy. Targets of the testing activity are the delivery of the Product to final Customers, world-wide Pilot Customer Acceptances and Product Maintenance.

UMTS ST activity was introduced in 2002, on top of the already existing GSM ST activity: Siemens Node-B, RC and NEC Node-B, RNC. The GSM/UMTS Call Handling Test Acceptance towards local Customers Wind, TIM and H3G-I, the world-wide Technical Product Support and ST internal Core Network Management were all introduced in 2003. The team consistency reached fifty persons.

I was introduced to the GSM System Test activity and became responsible in Product Generation of the Team testing the Call Handling features and performances of the Siemens Radio Access Network, composed by the BTS, BSC, TRAU and RC equipments. Moreover, the Call Handling Acceptance for the Customer Wind was also in charge of the team, which was around fifteen persons.

I worked in the unique in the world pico-cellular urban application of DECT technology, deployed as “FIDO” by TELECOM in late ‘90s in 30+ Italian towns, leading eight persons for the integration of the Radio Fixed Part by lab activity and in field experimentation. Lack of commercial instrumentation and tools required simulators internal development. In addition I attended ETSI groups of standardization, performed the Type Acceptance and the Test Acceptance.

I worked on the Trunked Systems, preceeding TETRA, for Private Operators (Railway, Underground, Sanity, Army, Energy, Police …), used for the italian World Football Championship in 1990 stadium coverage. I was technical responsible, coordinated four persons, contributed to the System Specification, interfaced partner Firms for the integration of the Italtel Vehicular Equipments and Radio Bases, lead the Customer Enabling, the Acceptance and the Type Approval.

I studied the literature, simulated in Lab and experimented in field the extension of the radio coverage of cellular systems 450/900 MHz (RTMS, ETACS/GSM) to tunnels, by means of leaky cables / antennas and multi-hop broadband Power Amplifiers, producing the Specification for the Design of the cellular extensions and for the P.A. requirements. Moreover, I lead the acceptance of the OEM P.A.
